walking, raining, shopping, eating

We (cyrus here, julia too tired to write after walking all day) spent 100% of our day hiking around Tokyo from Aikihabara (electronics super shopping area) then to Ginza where there was Prada, Gucci, Armani etc. as far as the eye could see.

I am taking lots of pictures, so we should have some good blog fodder upon our return. I may find a way of getting a few out now, but I didnt bring my camera-> laptop cable...

Anyway, we ended up not having Kobe beef last night since the place was already full. we did have a wonderful dinner at a tempura place where they showed us the live shrimp, scallops, and yams (is live appropriate here too?) And we had blue fin tuna sashimi and an amazing rice dish with a fried egg to finish, we had a little sake too. it was fun but we were tired after the long plane ride.

I managed to sleep most of the night, and I think Julia did better sleeping all night, so we are going strong still. We are taking a 1hr pit stop in the hotel and we go out to shabu shabu for dinner tonight. Lorena is really having fun shopping with Julia, the shopping enthusiasm feeds from one to the other and ends up with a whole lotta shopping.

Our loot from today includes 1 beautiful silk kimono, a cashmere scarf, wooden dolls, candies, chopsticks, teeshirt... and this is just day #1. I will be working almost solid from here out till be working almost solid from here out till Friday, but I am excited about hearing what Julia ends up doing. Hey the work is going to be fun too.

3 years ago today...

Well I (Cyrus here) was in Japan 3 years ago today. I was thinking how much my life has changed since that time. I was still working on lithography, but other than that it has been quite a 360 -- I met Julia, got married, bought a house... Wow!

Anyway, I am back in Japan for a visit to one of our fabs, but also a demo & presentation with Hitachi at Semicon Japan. I took Julia along for the ride, she is in charge of shopping and traveling around Tokyo while I work. We are already having a wonderful time. Our hotel in Tokyo is amazingly huge (by local standards) We have a beautiful view of downtown, the river, other buildings. I am taking lots and lots of pictues, hopefully some will make it into our blog once we get home.

We arrived safely last night and had a nice Tempura dinner. Now it is early morning and we are to tour the city (read go shopping, both the HItachi person who traveled here with us and Julia are fanatical shoppers). Then I am off to Aizu to our fab on Monday, meetings with Hitachi in Mito for tues-wed, and presenting at Semicon in Thursday. Julia will be touring the local climes during that time. Then, we head off to Kyoto for a little R&R (no work) on Friday and Sat. Then back to the states on Sunday night.

Happy Holidays!

The turkey is eaten, the dishes are cleaned and put away, and now the Christams season begins. I have tried this week to finish most of my Christams shopping prior to Thanksgiving, since Cyrus and I are leaving for Japan next week. It is such a treat to go to Japan for 9 days this December. Honestly I love that we have the ability to take off for trips like this.

On the home front I am assured that our bathroom remodel is progressing. Tomorrow we will see just how much progress has been made. I promise to post pictures soon.

As for the Christmas season I will start decoarting tomorrow, after I unpack from our Thanksgiving trip and repack for our Japan trip. This year I am going to go all out, or that is what I keep saying. We will see since we will only be home for a total of 15 days before Christmas.

Off to finish my simple, yet difficult Christmas cards......

It only happens once a year.....

I love this time of year when the air gets more crisp and the holidays approach. One of my favorite ways to mark that the holiday season is upon us is by the arrival of the Starbucks red cup. I love walking into a Starbucks in the morning to smell the coffee and hear the grinding of beans, but what I love even more than that is walking out with a hot latte on a cold morning in a festive red cup. It can make any bad day seem better.

In other news I took my car in for service. It ended up having major issues and now is going to cost us a fortune to fix. Oh well, cars do break I suppose.

Our bathroom remodel is in full swing. Yesterday was demo day. There is literally nothing left. Now the exciting part of putting it back together begins. We will post pictures soon.

5 years

I got my 5 year service award today at the compnay I work at. Cyrus got his a couple months ago. It is amazing to me that I have worked here for 5 years. That is longer than college, longer than high school, longer than I have been married or even known my husband, longer than I have owned my current car....amazing. I initially thought 5 years isn't that long, but then everyone is saying wow I can not believe you have been here 5 years. I guess it is nothing to brush off.

On another subject it is a mere 3 hours before our Halloween party starts. I am so excited and yet concerned at the same time. I am not sure I have enough food. This is a common concern of mine prior to our parties, but this time I think it might be somewhat true. Once I leave work I will rush off to try to pad the party food and hope that candy I have will cover up for any shortfallings.

To blog or not to blog

I started my blog intending it to be a place to share important things that happened in my life. Unfortunately living those important moments has taken over and I am being blamed of having abandoned my blog. Not true I might add. Here is a quick review:

-Turned 26 yesterday and am officially closer to 30 than 20.
-Husband is off working on technology in Dresden :( and unfortunately could only sing me happy birthday over the phone.
-I am going to a Sheryl Crow concert tomorrow and leaving work early…. much needed after the week that I have had.

Painter's Tape Blue vs. Suede Desert Plateau

A new house, a new canvas! Upon moving into our new house we made a list of all the things that we wanted to do- luckily with a house as complete as this one the list is short! At the top was painting the den (see the before- painter's tape blue). Don't get me wrong I like blue, but this was just a little too much blue.

So, being that I am ambitious and somewhat impatient I decided to "surprise" Cyrus with a newly painted den when he returned from his backpacking trip, 3 weeks after we moved in. So, first I convinced/coaxed/coerced my best friend, B, into helping me paint 2 coats of primer and then "finish" off with 2 more coats of suede paint. (A note for those of you have never painted with suede paint- you have to have patience, oh and a ton of time!) After a number of nights and our entire weekend the painting was finally finished. Now we have a somewhat western den, representative of Cyrus's love of the outdoors and my desire to have a restful place to create the plans for our next projects.

Quiet?

In the past week I have seen my husband off for a 10 day backpacking trip with friends, entertained my sister and niece for the weekend, shopped, redecorated my house, and now I am painting a room in the house. It seems crazy I know, but I always have a project or a plan.

It is my goal this week, month, year to sit down with no project for a day and just relax. Then again isn't that what vacations are for?

Going, going, gone

Moving is never fun. Add in two flights of stairs and what seems like a mile to the street, and it is near impossible.

4 hours with 3 professional movers and about 20 car loads on our own and we are official out of the condominium and in boxes in our new home.

Now, we start the unpacking process........

wedding update

We went to Lisa and Tim's wedding this weekend. Lots of fun with a wedding at Santa Clara U.

Here is a cool picture that Bianca took of us. Who is that cute girl?

We enjoyed getting to hang out with all of the folks at the wedding. Even though it was Sunday we danced like it was 1999.

Our New House

Here is a photo that we are really excited to share of our new house. We are moving in soon but we have had a few visits where we got to actually see OUR house. It is a little nerve wracking to be waiting to move in since we are already paying for the mortgage!

Julia is busy working on photo albums for the honeymoon photos. She never stops (but why would anyone want to stop a whirlwind like her?) I love her.

Day 1

House bought, condo in escrow (not escort as I once put in an email), and many, many boxes to be packed. 2 months after our wedding we are in the thick of it so to speak. We drive home each day thinking we are so excited to shorten our commute, live in a larger space, oh and if I have my way rip into at least a few walls. (FYI, Cyrus is reading this over my shoulder holding a paperbag to his mouth and breathing slowly...)

Well, we are off to work on the things on the top of our to-do list.....work, sorting wedding photos, oh and sleep.
