Family Date Night
Sometimes you just need a date night, but you have no sitter, no family nearby and no one that you want to beg to watch your kid, so you have family date night. Since becoming parents 18 months ago, actual “date nights” with things like dinner and a movie are few and far between for all the reasons above plus the additional financial burdens of raising a family, paying a babysitter, etc. What used to be just dinner and a movie is now a $100+ night out on the town.
But, we still like to have time together to talk, eat good food, etc. Last weekend I came up with what we have now deemed a brilliant family date night. We went to Whole Foods! Sounds odd I know, but it was so much fun. It started with us setting a budget to only spend $40 and see what we could get for dinner. What we ended up with was a 3 course meal, 4 courses really if you count the “appetizers” they have to sample for free. We got rare cheeses and olives, some scrumptious pre-cooked ribs, veggies and even ice cream and chocolate syrup. Once we got home, we made our peanut dinner, put her to bed and then had a lovely carpet picnic and caught up on our movies. It was so much fun working within the budget and having the whole family that we have decided that we will do it again soon.
Just thought I would share for anyone out there looking for a creative family friendly “date” night.
