Doctor doctor

Sophia has been really interested in playing doctor lately.  Not sure where she got it from other than the one Caillou we saw where the animals go to the doctor, but she is really into it.  It started with her telling everyone who comes over that they are sick and need to lie down on the couch.  She covers them with a blanket, tucks them in and then finds some play food and tells you, “this is mecine to make you feel better”.  It cracks me up.  Last week she added in giving shots, so the nanny gave her a carrot and she started to give her dolls and monster bear shots; later she moved onto the people.  She tells you to close your eyes and then gives you a shot.  If you ask if it will hurt she says no, but you need to close your eyes.  

Then yesterday I remembered that my sister gave me a fabric doctor’s kit that my niece had.  Well she took the stethoscope and immediately put it on my stomach and said I am listening to the baby, thump thump.  

I asked how the baby was doing and she said she needed a shot.  I said okay, but what if it hurt that baby and then she said I think she needs 2 shots and to close my eyes.  In this picture she is looking to make sure that my eyes are closed while I am taking the picture.

Pregnancy update & a peak at the nursery

This pregnancy is flying by.   I am now 28 weeks pregnant and officially in 3rd and final trimester.  So far I have been feeling great; in fact this week two different people said they 1) didn't know I was pregnant (which in my opinion is a bit of a stretch, but I am happy I don't look huge) and 2) I don't move like a pregnant lady.  I guess that explains how I am still chugging along on the massive list of things that need to be completed before the baby arrives.

The nursery is coming along- I have to say that I adore the tiffany blue color.  It is feminine yet different and I love it.  The rooms basics are just about complete, but it is far from totally decorated.

As for pregnancy cravings, I finally had one.  I have been craving a piece of Dick's almond cake for weeks.  Bianca totally surprised me with it the other day.  Of course it was not a complete snack without a pickle on the side (I am totally serious, even if it is a total cliche).

Streamlining: Custom Under the Bed boxes

In preparing for the new baby in our current house, we have had to come to terms that we have too much stuff. It started some time ago when we consolidated the living room and family room into one space and created a dining room and more open kitchen. This resulted in a large garage sale in which we sold a lot of furniture. Now we are breaking down beds and moving extras out of what was the guest room in order to make way for our next baby girl.

As part of that, I needed to move my clothes out of the closet in the spare room and into our room. After a major purging session of both our clothes, I had a stack of things that I need, but not all the time. In comes my wood working husband, who agreed to make under the bed boxes, if I designed them. So I designed simple boxes on tiny casters that would fit under the bed and have a nice handle on the front in order to access them. I finished them off with two coats of cream paint and simple cotton covers that snap onto the box frame and keep any dust off of the items in the boxes. They look clean and simple under the bed and I couldn't be happier with them. The best part is that they were actually cheaper than even their plastic counterparts. All 4 boxes with supplies cost about $80.
