Sophia's First Bath!
This week, after her umbilical cord fell off, we gave Sophia her first bath. She loved being in the water, but hated the part where we took her out of the water and dressed her again.
In other news our little Minnie Mouse- her nickname because she was mini when she was born and squeaks like a mouse at the end of each of her cries, is growing by leaps and bounds. She was born weighing 6 pounds 1 ounce and at her 2 weeks doctor's appointment last Friday she weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces. This week is her 3 week growth sprout and she seems to be eating all the time......we can definitely see her growing as she is finally fitting into her newborn clothing.

As promised.....the brith story
On July 9th at 7:30 pm I arrived at Labor and Delivery for a scheduled induction, due to the fact that for the last 8 weeks of my pregnancy I had high blood pressure readings off and on and some signs of pre-eclampsia. We were to start the evening with a round of cervadil, which would last 8 hours and then start pitocin. So, we started cervadil and after 8 hours we found out I was only 1 centimeter dilated. After 3 attempts to get my IV in, we started the pitocin at 4:45 am. At 8 am my doctor came in to break my water and help start things, since labor had not really started for me yet. When she broke my water she said that she felt the baby, but what she felt was pretty soft for a head and we needed an ultrasound. So, at 8:01 they wheeled in the ultrasound machine and discovered that our daughter was breech.
45 minutes later she was born via Cesearan. Honestly there was no time to be scared about the C-section or even think twice about it because as soon as the doctor said I was having a c-section they were prepping me for surgery- drink this, sign here, etc. Then I was wheeled in a wheel chair to the table where they gave me a spinal and I was numb. I was laid down and then they said it is starting. Next thing I knew my daughter was being held up in front of me.
The whole process took about 45 minutes- Sophia was out in 5 minutes and then the rest of the time they were working on putting me back together again. Then I was put onto another bed, wheeled into recovery where I stayed for 2 hours. I was numb from the chest down and shaking from the anesthesia, so I was pretty helpless but B, my sister and Maddie were there with Cyrus to help hold Sophia and try to comfort me.
Then we were wheeled to our room, which is in Antepartum not the Mother and Baby unit because they were completely full. Cyrus and I were actually really thrilled about being in this unit because we got a much bigger room and Cyrus got a bed to sleep in instead of a chair. Although we were allowed to stay in the hospital for 4 full days to recover, we departed after 3 hoping to get started on our own routine.

Clearly a time to celebrate
I guess the blog has been a bit Sophia centric, but that is certainly what we are all thinking about these days. She is doing great. Here is a pic of us yesterday getting ready to party down. Dom anyone?
