Glamour Party
Sophia was recently invited to a glamour birthday party. You can not imagine the excitement leading up to this party. At the party they had their nails and toes painted and their hair done.

Sophia has become quite the little chef recently, helping to make many of the meals in our house. So, when it came to her dad's birthday she told me and Julie she wanted to make his favorite- pie. Being that I am always running around, Julie took this task on with her and they made probably the best apple pie I have ever had (with our hand picked apples from the apple farm)! Here are some photos of Cyrus's birthday; Sophia even has green paint on her neck from her daily painting project.

Last weekend we made our annual trek to the pumpkin patch. As usual it was hot, hotter than my mind thinks it should be in October, but this year we were prepared. The kids had a blast on the rides and playing in the pumpkin patch. Here are a few photos of the day:

Saturday, September 22, 2012 was the first day of fall. We really celebrated this year!

Here’s what we have been doing this summer:
1) Kid’s birthday parties- so many of them that Sophia expects to have a least 1 piece of cake each weekend.
2) Swimming- the new “park” for us. Daily swimming has led to the kids’ eating more and going to bed much earlier- they are tired!
3) Boxes- unpacking boxes and doing projects around the house are commonplace for us on the weekends and evenings.
4) Family visits- we have had 2 family visits already and 1 more planned. We all love seeing our distant family at our house or theirs.
5) Baby strollers- a favorite pastime both girls right now is loading up their doll
strollers and racing around the house.

Friday night we started talking about our plans for the weekend- this is a rare occurrence as we generally are quite booked on the weekends. I asked Sophia if she wanted to go on a family adventure; her eyes lit up and she yelled yes across the dining table. Cyrus and I both looked at each other and without hesitation said let’s go the zoo. Oddly we have only been to the zoo once in this area & we both thought of it.
Saturday morning we got dressed, packed up some snacks and headed out to the San Francisco Zoo. We arrived just in time to run across the zoo to see the Grizzly Bears being fed. This was quite an experience to see them tossing tree stumps to get to sweet potatoes and lettuce and diving into their pool to get the live fish. It was only up from there- we saw peacocks wandering the park, the hippo coming up for breaths, the penguins and even a tiger roar. I managed to get a few priceless photos of the animals and a few of the kids as well.

Sophia started her last year of preschool today! She could not have been more excited marching into her new classroom, as if she owned the place. With great confidence she sat in circle time all by herself, waving estatically and yelling bye to both Cyrus and me.
After class was over we followed through with our 1st day tradition and took her out to lunch. We asked her about her favorite part of school was she said it was the painting. Some things never change- that was her favorite last year too!

4- yes, 4. Wow, that was fast. In true Sophia fashion she described in great detail the type of party she wanted- a Little Mermaid one at the park with all her friends. So, that is what we had. Having just moved into our new house I was happy to oblige a less complex birthday party with ordered food & cupcakes. Sophia was thrilled. She had her friends, the park playground, BBQ (one of her favorite foods), a giant Ariel piñata filled with candy and sea animals & cupcakes. It was the perfect day topped off by lots of fun new toys, dress up clothes and all the things she loves. Thank you to everyone for coming and celebrating with us.
Her party was a great success, as was her actual birthday. She requested cake and mashed potatoes. That is what she had for dinner- in that order (it is only once a year, right?). She got lots of presents including a remote control car. She was in heaven with all the big girl toys and her new bedroom with mermaids floating on the walls. As you can tell, this is a girl who loves mermaids and sea animals. She categorizes sea animals by stinging and non-stinging ones and knows most of the genesis of them.
